Thirsty? Make Sure You Drink The Right Stuff

We all know how important it is to stay hydrated and have plenty of liquids throughout the day. If you work out as well, your body needs even more hydration to sustain the extra effort. When we’re thirsty we tend to be less picky about what we drink, as long as it just takes away the sensation of thirst, but still, you need to pay extra attention not only to what you eat, but to what you drink as well.

Tea

Tea is generally considered to be a healthy choice, and it definitely is. However, it’s best to just have tea without any added sugar, honey or cream, not only because of the extra calories you get with those ingredients, but also because tea has a quite fragile aroma, which you may not be able to taste anymore if you just pack on the extra stuff. Also, try and make your own tea rather than just purchase bottled ice tea, because the latter usually contains additives for better preservation and a stronger taste, so it’s definitely not as natural as your home made tea in a pot. Hot tea can also dehydrate you, so make sure you have plenty of water during the day.

Skim milk

Skim milk is a great choice when it comes to drinks. It gives you the nutrients your body needs (calcium, vitamin A and B) and by going for the lowest in fat type of milk you can find you don’t have to worry about any unwanted extra pounds. Make sure to check the label before purchasing your milk because skim milk must be fortified with vitamin A to be nutritionally equivalent to whole milk.

Coffee

Coffee can act as a metabolism booster, well, rather the caffeine does. There are also studies that link caffeine to lower risks of developing certain types of cancer, as well as a lower rick of having depression or type 2 diabetes. We usually drink coffee just because it acts as a “wake me up” and gives us the energy to start the day. You should try to have coffee without any cream or sugar, if you’re wanting to be careful with your calorie intake. Also, as with most things in life, try and be moderate about how much coffee you drink, because caffeine is definitely addictive, so the more you have, the larger dosage you’ll need in the future to get the same effects.
